The Communiqué is a sporadically updated news magazine and labour of love edited and largely written by Gary Lawrence Murphy with occasional contributions by the site members. The objective is to inform our audience of new and interesting developments in free software, the nanocorp small business revolution, digital rights and universal free and open access to the Internet.

The Communiqué began in 1992 as a simple online notebook of interesting links and some tutorials I had written to educated Bell Canada employees about the Internet. By 1995 it had become a full-fledged news CMS, eventually using the same code I had developed for CBC Regional News, and evolved through the dot-bomb to the present state.

Our head offices and social software research and development labs are located in Sauble Beach, Ontario, about 220km northwest from Toronto in the maple forests along the eastern shores of Lake Huron.
